As a researcher, I am fascinated by the potential of ancient DNA to unlock the secrets of the past. My particular focus is on exploring the relationships between humans and animals throughout history, using paleogenomics and other molecular techniques to understand how these interactions have shaped--and continue to shape--societies.
Most of my work is in regions with very poor biomolecule preservation. I explore how to maximize recoverable data from poorly preserved samples and how to use this limited data in informative ways.
As an educator, my passion lies in engaging students and fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. I believe that education is most effective when it is rooted in real-world issues and encourages students to explore their own interests and passions.
In addition to teaching, I am also committed to outreach and community engagement. I believe that it is important for academics to be involved in the broader community and to use our skills and expertise to make a positive impact on the world around us.
